Lawton Oklahoma is the largest city in Southwest Oklahoma which is located in the center of Comanche County. Lawton Oklahoma received its name from an U.S. Army Major. Gen. named Henry W. Lawton. An U.S. Army base called Fort Sill is located in Lawton Oklahoma. It has been operating in Lawton since 1869 up to the present time. The city of Lawton increased rapidly in size in the 1930s to the early 70s due to Fort Sill operating there. Many different industries such as cotton gins, grain elevators, ice plants, and etc were there, because of the agricultural population that was growing and the appearance of railroads. There were several industries that were in operation in the mid-1930s. Larrance Tank Corporation, Parks Broom Factory, Fairmont Creamery, Industrial Sand and Gravel were some of the companies that operated in Lawton Oklahoma. For many of years, some of these companies continued to operate in Lawton Oklahoma. Lawton is also known for its higher education. Cameron University became a four-year university in 1941, and before that it was known as Cameron State Agriculture College which became known as junior college in the year of 1927. Not only is Lawton Oklahoma known for Cameron University, but the city is known for its vocational school called Great Plains Technology Center.  Lawton Oklahoma has many churches with different denominations.

The City has many activities to do. It has lakes where families can go camping and enjoy being near the water in their campers, tents, or there are cabins to rent at one of the lakes. Can enjoy fun filled days with going swimming, fishing, kayaking, and so much more. There are many different restaurants to decide from including: chinese, japenese, sea food, mexican, and so many other restaurants.

Lawton Oklahoma has many different tourist attractions which include Lawton Country Club, Comanche National Museum and Cultural Center, Lawton Arts and Humanities Council, Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, Medicine Creek Recreation Area, and the Apache Casino Hotel.
